Celebrating the Life of Elder Jason Mose Bwana (1946 – 2026)

It is with deep sorrow yet humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the peaceful transition of Elder Jason Mose Bwana, who rested at the age of 80 after a bravely fought illness. He was a devoted family man, a hardworking farmer, and a pillar of faith in his community.

Birth and Early Life

Elder Jason Mose Bwana was born in 1946 at Bonyankama Village, Nyachogochogo Sub-Location, Gesabakwa Location, Kisii County. He was the son of the late Nicolus Bwana Akuma and the late Sabina Moragwa Bwana. Growing up in a lively household, he was the 8th born in a family of 10 siblings: the late Nyarangi, the late Francis Onderi, Kemunto, the late Nyansiaboka, Kerubo, Nyarinda, Moraa, Okindo, and Obonyo.

Education and Rites of Passage

In 1957, Jason underwent the Kisii customary rites of passage, transitioning into young adulthood. He began his education at Nyamache Intermediate School (Std 1–5) from 1957 to 1961, before transferring to Kiobegi D.E.B Primary School for Std 6 (1962–1964), where he excelled. He proceeded to Onjiko Secondary School for his form one to form four education between 1965 and 1968.

Marriage and Family

In 1976, Elder Jason was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Rebecca Moraa Bwana, in a solemnized union at Bogetorora Village, Nyachenge Sub-Location. Together, they built a beautiful, resilient family grounded in Christian values and love. They were blessed with five children: Zachary, Michira, Samwel Omare Evans Okong’o, Esther Nyanchama, and Albert Keoga. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense joy to his later years.

Career and Farming

After completing school, Jason initially joined the Miwani Sugar Company factory as a security guard in 1969. He later worked with the Kiamokama Tea Factory in 1984 before returning home to dedicate his life to agribusiness. As a passionate and progressive farmer in Kisii, he faithfully cultivated coffee, pyrethrum, tea, and food crops. Through the soil, he found an honest living that successfully educated his children and sustained his household.

Spiritual and Social Life

Elder Jason was a staunch, baptized member and active leader at the Mogutano SDA Church. He played an instrumental role in church development, famously supporting the local music ministry by actively assisting in the production of choir music videos. Known for his jovial nature, kindness, and wise leadership, he was a respected community elder who bridged the gap between the young and old with effortless grace.
