John Kibii Arap Langat (1932 – 2026)

It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of John Kibii Arap Langat, a distinguished former law enforcement officer, agricultural leader, and cherished family patriarch. Mzee Langat went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in 1932 in Cheptililik Village, Koitaburot, Kericho County, he led a life defined by public service, integrity, and faith.

Public Service & Leadership

John joined the Kenya Police Force in 1958, serving in various regions across the country, including Nairobi, Garissa, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, and Nyamira, before retiring in Kehancha as Chief Inspector of Police. Following his retirement from public service, he engaged in farming and agricultural leadership, serving as Chief Security Officer for African Highlands Tea Company. He later served as Chairman of the Agriculture Stakeholder Forum in Kericho District and represented Kericho at the African Agriculture Summit in South Africa.

Faith & Family

Mzee Langat was a committed Christian and active church member. He was baptized in 1952 at Cheptenye AGC and later served as Church Treasurer at Kakiprui James Memorial Church from 1995 to September 2020.

In 1966, he married Sarah Langat. Together, they were blessed with children—the late Jane Chebet, Dr. Betty Langat, Erick Bii, Robert Bii, Willy Bii, Faith Bii, Dorcas Bii, and Stephen Bii—as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment Details

The funeral service and final interment took place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his home in Kaptebeswet.
