Celebrating the Life of Mama Joyce Nyaboke Oanda (1950 – 2026)

It is with deep sorrow yet gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Mama Joyce Nyaboke Oanda on June 22, 2026, at the age of 76.

Early Life and Education.

Born in 1950 in Mwamonari Kenyuri, Masimba Village, Kisii County, Joyce was the beloved daughter of the late Mama Mong’ina Anyega and sister to George Matoke, the late Ondieki, Hon. Alice Boyani, Jane Moraa, and Daniel Machora. She began her educational journey at Masimba Primary School in 1957 and later attended Nyanturago Secondary School from 1965 to 1968, where she laid the foundation for her resourceful and wise approach to life.

Marriage, Family, and Faith.

In 1969, Joyce was united in holy matrimony with Frederick Oanda Makere. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, hard work, and mutual respect. She was a devoted mother to eight children: Richard, Hon. Robert, Vincent, Walter, Elvin, Clive, Wilkins, and Doris. She was also a loving mother-in-law and a proud, doting grandmother to many grandchildren. A steadfast pillar of faith, Mama Joyce was a dedicated member of the Makanda SDA Church, where she faithfully served her community as a church treasurer, choir member, and deaconess.

Health Journey and Rest.

In her later years, Mama Joyce faced several health challenges with remarkable courage and unwavering faith, receiving care at various institutions including the Aga Khan Hospital Kisii, Nyanchwa Adventist Hospital, and Halisi Family Hospital in Kitengela. She developed complications in early June 2026 and slipped away peacefully on June 22, 2026. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, humility, and generosity that will continue to inspire generations to come.
