In loving memory of Mzee Meshack Omari Teya

Mzee Meshack Omari Teya was born on January 18, 1953, in Masabo village, Kisii County, to the late Barnabas Teya Rwoti and the late Paulina Nyanchera Teya. He grew up in a loving household as the 4th born among eleven siblings: Eucabeth Mogotu, James Obino, Mary Moraa, the late David Nyokwoyo, Yabesh Nyamao, the late Abel Mogaka, Agnes Nyarangi, Donald Kebabe, Helen Nyaboke, and Philip Nyagaka. In 1963, he underwent his initiation rites according to Gusii traditions.

Education & Career

Meshack began his primary education in 1960 at Getacho Primary School, later moving to Chibwobi Primary School. He attended secondary school at Moi Gesusu High School and completed his secondary education at Taranganya High School in Migori County in 1975.

In 1975, Meshack joined the police force, serving with distinction in the General Service Unit (GSU) in Ruaraka for twenty years. In 1994, he transferred to the National Police Service and served as Head Signaller in Nakuru, Kilgoris, and Litein. After over three decades of dedicated service to the nation, he retired in 2008 and returned home to Masabo village.

Family & Community

In 1978, Meshack married Eunice Monyangi Omari. Their union was blessed with six children: Lilian Kerubo, Lydia Moraa, Dennis Ondati, the late Ruth Kemunto, Lucy Gesare, and Cyrus Kandwara.

Following his retirement, Meshack devoted himself to community service. He served as Head of Development at Getunwa SDA Church, spearheading improvements to church structures. He was also instrumental in starting several local welfare groups, including a retirees’ group which he chaired for five years.

Passing

Meshack managed diabetes with resilience over fifteen years and was later diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. He received treatment at Oscar Hospital, Kenyatta Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, and Nairobi West Hospital, followed by surgery at Chiron Hospital. After ten days in the ICU, he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 73.

Funeral & Service Details

• Thursday, Aug 13, 2026: Removal and viewing at Chiron Morgue , followed by procession to Masabo Village for viewing, speeches, song service, and night vigil.
• Friday, Aug 14, 2026: Funeral service starting at 9:00 AM, administration, eulogy, and lowering of the body at 4:00 PM at his family home in Masabo Village, Kisii County.
