Obituary For Phylis Okelo Osoo

In Loving Memory of Madam Phylis Okelo Osoo

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Madam Phylis Okelo Osoo, a dedicated educator, mentor, and beloved member of her community, who rested peacefully on 19th May 2026 at the age of 40.

Early Life and Education

Phylis was born on 14th May 1986 to Mwalimu Joseph Abot Osoo and Mama Florence Akinyi Osoo of South Sakwa, Awendo Sub-County, Migori County. Raised in a devout Christian household, she carried the values of discipline, compassion, and humility throughout her entire life. She began her academic journey at Bondo Kogelo Primary School before joining St. Mary Goretti Girls Secondary School, Dede, for her secondary education. Phylis went on to pursue teacher training at Kamagambo Adventist Teachers Training College and later joined Kisii University, where she graduated with a Diploma in Education.

Professional Career and Community Impact

Known affectionately by many as “Aphilo,” Madam Phylis was an exceptional teacher. In 2018, she was employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and posted to Itibo Comprehensive School. Beyond her brilliant classroom instruction, she served passionately as the Games Teacher in charge of athletics and ball games, nurturing local sports talents and instilling competitive excellence in her students. As a Music Teacher, she beautifully directed the school choir, molding young voices and leaving a lasting legacy in co-curricular activities.

Church and Christian

Faith Phylis was a steadfast member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church under the Migori East District. Her beautiful singing voice was a mainstay of the church choir, where she dedicated her talents to worship and ministry programs, anchoring her strength in her relationship with God even during her final health battles.

Family and Demise

Phylis was a loving daughter, a treasured sister to Milka Awuor Osoo, the late Edward Malachi Osoo, Linda Osoo, Nimrod Adawo Osoo, Bethwel Osoo, and Rose Osoo, and a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. In August 2025, she began facing health challenges, initially seeking treatment at Tabaka Mission Hospital. Following evaluations at Migori and a surgical procedure, she was diagnosed in January 2026 with Osteosarcoma. She underwent courageous medical treatments at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, showing immense resilience, faith, and hope until her peaceful transition.
