Roberts Joseph Osano Obiri (1956 – 2026)

It is with deep sadness and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Roberts Joseph Osano Obiri, a distinguished educationist, community leader, and devoted family man, who went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2026. Born in 1956 in Getaseni Village, Kisii County, Roberts dedicated his life to academic excellence, spiritual service, and societal development.

Early Life & Education

Roberts began his early education at Amabuko DOK Primary School before proceeding to the prestigious Government African School (GAS), currently Kisii School, where he completed his East African Certificate of Education (EACE) in 1976. He furthered his studies at Siriba Teachers College (now part of Maseno University), graduating as a top P1 educator.

A Legacy in Education

A veteran in the education sector, Mr. Obiri served in various teaching and leadership capacities, including Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher across primary schools in Borabu. He was later promoted to Zonal Quality Assurance and Standards Officer (ZQASO) and Area Education Officer (AEO) in Gesima Zone. His dedication earned him national recognition as a Kiswahili KCPE examiner and selection for professional training at Naruto University of Education in Japan under the SMASE programme sponsored by JICA.

Family & Faith

Roberts was the loving husband of Teresa Kwamboka Obuya, with whom he solemnized his marriage at St. Andrew Kaggwa Church, Nyansiongo. He was a cherished father to Justus Gisemba, Judith Moraa, Cyprian Obiri, and Beatrice Kerubo, a caring father-in-law, and a grandfather to 14 grandchildren.

A staunch Catholic Christian, Roberts served as a Parish Council leader at Nyansiongo Parish, Treasurer of St. John the Evangelist Jumuiya, and an active member of the Catholic Men Association (CMA).

Interment Details

The burial service and final commendation took place at his home in Kineni Omweya Village, following a Requiem Mass at Nyansiongo Parish.
