Life and Legacy of Elder Samwel Ondiba Manyara (1934 – 2026)

Early Life & Background

Elder Samwel Ondiba Manyara was born in 1934 in Nyamwaga Village, the eldest son of the late Mzee Joshua Manyara Omete and the late Kwamboka Bisieri Manyara. He was a stepson of the late Esther Nyanchoka Manyara and the late Clemenciah Oboi Manyara. He grew up alongside his siblings Peninah Magoma Ogero, Square Mokaya, Michael Nyachieo, Maria, Moraa, Maria, Nyanchama, Bosire, Aunda, Dominic, and Joseph. Mzee attended Nyambaria, Gekano, and Keronga Primary Schools.

Marriage & Family

In 1960, Samwel was united in marriage with the late Milkah Basweti. Together, they were blessed with children: David, Grace, John, the late Lucy, Rebecca, Ruth, Elizabeth, and the late Charles. A patriarch of vast warmth, Mzee leaves behind a rich legacy including 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Occupation & Christian Life

Mzee spent his life as an organized peasant and livestock farmer. A devoted Christian from his youth, he was a long-standing member of Nyambaria SDA Church and served as a founder member of Nyamwaga SDA Church.

Final Days & Rites

After a period of declining health managed with care at Nairobi Hospital and Christamarrianne Hospital, Mzee passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026. Funeral services were held on July 31, 2026, with a procession from Christamarrianne Hospital Mortuary to Nyamwaga Secondary School and final rites at the family home in Nyamwaga.
