Celebration of the Life of Mzee Samwel Nyaranda Nchaga (1920 – 2026)

It is with deep sorrow but gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Mzee Samwel Nyaranda Nchaga, who rested peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the venerable age of 106.

Life and Legacy

Born in 1920 in Sasuri Village, Timi Sub-location, Nyamira County, Mzee Nyaranda was the beloved son of the late Nchaga Gisore and the late Moraa Nchaga. He began his early education at Itibo Mission School before training as a professional tailor, serving communities across Makairo, Mosobeti, Magura, Mokononi, and Kijauri. Later migrating to the Borabu Settlement Scheme, Mzee Nyaranda became a prominent progressive farmer, cultivating tea, pyrethrum, and maize alongside rearing livestock. His dedication to community advancement led to his election as the Chairman of the Manyanya Farmers Cooperative Society. He was also a devoted and faithful member of the Nyansiongo (P.A.G) Church.

Family

Mzee Nyaranda leaves behind a grand, loving legacy spanning multiple generations. He married his first wife, the late Sibiah Kemunto Nyaranda, in 1948, and was blessed with 8 children: Elijah Nyamweya, Veronicah Bosibori, Naomi Kemuma, Mary Nyachama, Charles Mosomi, Peris Kerubo, Rodah Boyani, Henry, and the late Tom. In 1967, he married his second wife, Jemima Bosibori, and was blessed with 7 children: the late Joshua Atunga, the late Caroline Nyachama, Stephen Ondime, Peter Omechi, Isabeka Moraa, Alloys Nyaranda, and Wycliffe Omanga. He was a cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to many.

Funeral and Burial Services

The final rites and celebration services were held seamlessly in July 2026:

Thursday, July 9, 2026: departing from the Nyansiongo Mission Hospital Morgue to his home in Nyansiongo.

Friday, July 10, 2026: Burial followed by gravesite prayers at his home in Nderema.
