Obituary & Life History: Mzee Stephen Tongi Maranya

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mzee Stephen Tongi Maranya, who departed this life on June 6, 2026, at the age of 67. Throughout his life, Stephen was known for his warm presence, hard work, steadfast faith, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.

Family Life & Legacy

Stephen was a devoted family man. In 1978, he married his beloved wife, Clesencia Kwamboka, later solemnizing their union through Holy Matrimony in 1989. Together, they were blessed with a large, loving family consisting of:

  • Eight Children: Eveline, Veriah, Winfridah, Enock, Geoffrey, Appolinaris, Egrly, and Leonidah.
  • Children-in-law: Norah Nyaboga, Christine Ragira, Wilkister Maranya, and Venic Manani.
  • Twenty-Seven Grandchildren & Four Great-Grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy, stories, and laughter into his life.

Sickness and Demise

Mzee Stephen enjoyed good health until May 2026, when he began experiencing abdominal pains. He sought treatment at Ram Hospital and was initially discharged. Following a scheduled check-up appointment, he was admitted on June 2, 2026. Despite dedicated medical efforts, he peacefully rested on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”Revelation 21:4

Tributes from the Family

Stephen left an indelible mark on multiple generations. His siblings remember him as a trusted confidant and a source of deep wisdom. To his children, he was a protector, a safe haven, and an inspirational foundation who taught them discipline and responsibility. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever carry forward the stories of his unconditional love, kindness, and strength.

Funeral and Burial Arrangements

The final send-off and celebration of life for Mzee Stephen Tongi Maranya took place following a night vigil on Thursday, June 18th, 2026. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 19th, 2026, featuring moving choir performances, family tributes, and a sermon, before he was laid to rest at his final resting place near his family home.
