Obituary For Teresia Kemunto Nyanchwania

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Teresia Kemunto Nyanchwania (1920 – 2026)

It is with deep sadness but immense gratitude for a long and beautifully lived life that we announce the passing of Teresia Kemunto Nyanchwania, who peacefully went to be with the Lord in 2026 at the age of 106. A matriarch of profound faith, love, and resilience, Teresia leaves behind a rich legacy that spans generations.

Early Life and Education

Teresia Kemunto Nyanchwania was born in 1920 in Kirwa, Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County. She was the beloved daughter of the late Oyaro Ochia and the late Kerubo Moriango. Growing up in a large, vibrant household, she was raised alongside her siblings: the late Okari, the late Ochia, the late Teresa, the late Kerubo, and Yusaria Kwamboka. Teresia attended primary school up to Class Two, after which she left school to take care of her younger siblings. While she did not continue formal schooling, she proudly acquired the ability to read and write through her own initiative—a skill that remained incredibly valuable to her throughout her long life.

Marriage and Family

In 1945, Teresia was united in holy matrimony to the late Shem Nyanchwania Nyamaruru. Together, they blessed the world with eight children: the late Zachary Nyakundi, the late Mary Kerubo, Rev. Samwel Rwoti, David Oyaro, John Oriero, James Omwoyo, Florence Bosibori, and Beatrice Nyangate. As a dedicated mother and family cornerstone, her legacy blossomed to include 34 grandchildren, including the late Sarah, Ogamba (USA), Ochogo, Nancy, Nyanchwania, Josephine Bosibori, Julius Omariba, Faith Nyaboke, Peter Areba, Mercy Moraa (USA), Josephine Kemunto, Pst. Japhet Nyanchwania, Haron Omariba, Pst. Josephat Moindi, Alfred Matunda, Vennah Kemunto, Wilfred Nyanchwania, Everline Kwamboka, Justine Angwenyi, Zachary Nyakundi, Benard Ondicho, Evans Znyanchwania, Felix Matunda, Judy Kemunto, Mackline Kerubo, Elizabeth Kebagwa, Naom Kemunto, Emmah Moraa, Pamela Nyaboke, Lewis Nyamboki, Mercyline Kerubo, Naom Kemunto, Vennah Moraa, Emmanuel Obadiah, and the late Zachary Nyakundi. She was also a proud great-grandmother to 66 great-grandchildren (abachokororia) and 19 great-great-grandchildren (ebichembene).

In-Laws and Extended Family

Teresia was a cherished mother-in-law to Julia Kerubo, the late Johnson Otieno, Hellen Moraa, Monicah Nyangara, Monicah Kerebi, Grace Kemunto, Charles Bogonko, Risper Nyaboke, and the late Pst Obadiah Omare. She was a dear sister-in-law to the late Anyona Mariita and the late Ondieki Mariita. She held a special place as a Korera (co-in-law) to the late Bogonko, the late Priscillah, the late Obino, the late Kemunto, the late Atambo, and the late Mokeira.
