Early Life & Background
Zablon Aloys (Motanya) Ooga was born in 1963 in Masago Village, Girango Sub-location, Gachuba Location, Nyamira County. He was the son of the late Zachary Ooga and the late Salome Moraa. He grew up surrounded by a large family as a brother to James Ongaki, Josphat, Ontonu, Mokaya, Boraya, Ogeto, Machira, Josephine, Mokeira, Teresia, Ogutu, and the late Ongonto, Momanyi, Stella, and Nyamatenia. In 1973, he underwent traditional initiation.
Education & Church Life
Zablon began his primary education at Girango Primary School in 1975, earning his CPE certificate in 1985. He later joined Kiang’ende Polytechnic, where he trained and qualified as a mason engineer. Raised in a devout Christian environment, he was baptized into the Catholic Church.
Family & Career
In 1987, Zablon married his beloved wife, Esther Kerubo. Together, they were blessed with seven children: Geoffrey, Dennis, Dominic, Hyline, Vane, Duncan, and Mark. He was also a proud grandfather to Faith, Benedict, Ann, and Maliana. Throughout his life, Zablon worked tirelessly as a dedicated farmer and skilled mason engineer, ensuring steady provision and stability for his household.
Sickness & Demise
After a long period of good health, Zablon began experiencing health challenges in 2022 and was managed for a heart-related condition at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. Despite ongoing medical care and the devoted efforts of his family and doctors at Keumbu Level 4 Hospital and RAM Hospital, Mzee Zablon peacefully rested at the age of 63 on the morning of Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Funeral & Service Details
- Thursday, July 30, 2026: Removal and viewing at RAM Hospital Morgue at 11:00 AM, followed by procession to Masago Village for viewing, speeches, song service, and night vigil.
- Friday, July 31, 2026: Funeral service started at 9:00 AM, administration, eulogy, and lowering of the body at 4:00 PM at his family home in Masago Village, Nyamira County.
